Dressing the part is a great way to make a lasting first impression on an employer. When it comes to job interviews, networking events, or professional outings, the question of “what am I going to wear!?” always arises. The first thing is to find out what the dress code is and to dress accordingly. A good rule of thumb that we like to abide by, is that it is better to be overdressed than underdressed. Plus, putting on a dope outfit that makes you feel powerful is going to build your confidence and help you kill the job interview. So to help you construct the perfect business casual look, we are presenting you with 5 business casual staples that you need in your wardrobe.

#1. The perfect fitting, black blazer

A blazer is an absolute essential. It is perfect for layering, and you can incorporate it into many different looks. Wear it over a turtleneck paired with trousers, over a sweater or blouse, or even pair it with a dress or skirt. A blazer is an easy way to elevate your look and make it more business appropriate. We highly recommend having a good blazer in your closet.

#2. A neutral colored pair of trousers

While slacks aren’t our favorite item to shop for, they are an important staple to have. Make sure the color is neutral such as black, cream, beige, brown, navy, or gray. It’s okay if they have a subtle print, but make sure it is not too loud or overstated i.e. don’t wear your favorite pair of leopard printed pants! They can be cropped, flared, straight legged, wide legged, skinny, etc. The fit is totally up to you and whatever you are comfortable with wearing!

#3. A classy dress

Having a staple dress for business casual wear is always a good idea! However, it is important to make sure it is appropriate. It should be long enough to reach the knee and cover your shoulders and chest. Keep it simple and don’t go for anything too exaggerated. A few ideas are blazer dresses, shift dresses, and collared dresses.

#4. A basic turtleneck sweater or top

Don’t sleep on a good turtleneck! Turtlenecks are timeless pieces that can elevate your outfit and add an element that forms a more interesting look. They also look amazing paired with a blazer or an overcoat. If you aren’t into turtlenecks, then we recommend going for a knit sweater or a pretty blouse!

#5. A sleek pair of nude or black heels

To polish off the look, you’ll need an amazing pair of heels! The heel should cover most of your foot and shouldn’t be too tall. A nude or black color is going to be the best option so you can get the most wear out of them and integrate them into all outfits. Plus they are a gorgeous and timeless shoe. We recommend a pointed toe pump; they are a gorgeous and timeless shoe that are guaranteed to make your outfit more chic.
